Simple Computer Network Connection in a Windows



This is a simple guide about a computer network connection with set-up and configuration using Windows 7. The setup and configuration is also work in the previous version of Windows (XP, etc.).

Here is a guidelines with a name of PC and IP addresses and the equipment needed.

1 - Switch
3 - Computer Desktop with a NIC (network interface card), fresh installation copy of Windows 7
3 - LAN cable with a RJ45

Here is the label of a Computer.

- For 1st computer -  PC-1
Name: PC-1
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:

For 2nd computer - PC-2
Name: PC-2
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:

For 3rd computer -  PC-3
Name: PC-3
IP Address: 192.168.1.4
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:

Here is the configuration on network system in Windows 7. Do this in a every computer.


1. Go to Start and type network. Click Network and Sharing Center.
2. On the side, click Change Adapter settings.
3. Right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties.
4. Select a properties of Internet Protocol Version 4
5. click a Use the following IP address and type the IP address, subnet mask, and leave default gateway as blank.
6. For Preferred Domain Name Server, leave as blank.

For testing, use ping tool whether the connection in every computer PC-1, PC-2, PC-3 is working.

1. In PC-1, go to Command and type ping 192.168.1.3. And if they show the reply message, the connection is working. Repeat ping to 192.168.1.4.
2. In PC-2, go to Command and type ping 192.168.1.2. And if they show the reply message, the connection is working. Repeat ping to 192.168.1.4.
3. In PC-3, go to Command and type ping 192.168.1.3. And if they show the reply message, the connection is working. Repeat ping to 192.168.1.2.
