Installing Active Directory

OS - Windows Server 2003

Computer Name : Client 1
Static IP : 192.168.40.4 
Subnet : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway  : leave as blank
Preferred DNS : 192.168.40.2
Alternate DNS server : leave as blank

OS - Windows XP

Equipment needed:

2 Computer with NIC (network interface card)
1 Switch
2 Network Cable with rj45


Installing Active Directory to Server 1

1 Go to Server 1 and log on as Administrator. Go to Start-> Run then type in DCPROMO and click OK. Start  Run then type in DCPROMO in the run command and click OK.

2. The Active Directory installation wizard is begin. The first screen appear the Operating System Compatibility - Click on Next to continue.

3. The next screen, click Domain controller for a new domain, click Next.

4. The next screen, click Domain in a new forest, click Next.

5. The next screen, in the Full DNS name for new domain, type ACexample.com as a domain name, click Next.

6. The next screen, NetBios Domain Name, ACexample appeared on Domain NetBIOS name and leave as a default name, click Next

7. The next screen, the Database and Log Folders. You can change it the location of your logs files. The default location is %systemroot%\WINNT\NTDS. Click Next.

8. The next screen, the Shared System Volume. Leave the default location for the System Volume, click Next.

9. The next screen, the DNS Registration Diagnostics. Choose Install and configure the DNS server on this computer, and set this computer to use this DNS server as it preferred DNS server. click Next.

10. The next screen is the Permissions. Leave the default for Windows 2003 (Permissions compatible only with Windows on this domain) and click Next.

11 The next screen is asking for Directory Services Restore Mode Administrator Password. For this example, Add a password, 12344 and it should be different from log on administrator password, click Next.

13. The next screen, showing a summary of all the information you've been entered in settings. click Next to start the Active, Insert CD Windows Server 2003 to install the files that needed. Directory installation.

14. The next screen showing that Completing the Active Directory Installation Wizard is done. click Finish and the next pop-up screen showing to need to restart the computer, click Restart Now to get an affect of settings for the computer Server 1.

Add Client as a member to the Domain to the Server 1

1. Log on as the Administrator on Client 1. Go to Desktop and right click My Computer-> Computer Name tab click on Change button. In the Member of section, select Domain and type ACexample.com as a domain name of the server. Click OK.

2. When User name and Password appear, type the Administrator and password of Server 1. Click Ok, the computer need to restart to take affect of the settings.

3. When the computer start (Client computer), press CTRL-ALT-DELETE to log on. In the Options button. Click the Drop-down box and select ACexample and enter the administrator and password as the username and password and click Ok.

4. Go and Right click My Computer-> Properties -> Computer Name tab. It should now the Client 1 computer is a member of ACexample.com domain. 

5. Now, go to the Server 1. Go to Start-> Administrative Tools -> Active Directory Users and Computers. In the left side, click ACexample.com domain, find Server 1 and click. The Client 1 should be on the list member of Server 1.
